About the Role
The Apigee API Software Developer plays a key technical role on the Enterprise API Solutions and Apigee Platform Team, focusing on building reusable API services and assisting application teams with technical challenges on the Apigee X platform. The Developer designs, develops, troubleshoots API services, and provides technical guidance to GTBS teammates and organizational stakeholders. This role involves working closely with business clients, project stakeholders, IT personnel, and development staff to deliver high-quality API proxies and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with business clients, project stakeholders, IT personnel, and development staff in design, development, and delivery of API proxies
- Perform complex analysis of system capabilities and provide deep technical and functional expertise
- Plan and execute system implementations to minimize risk of outages or production impacts
- Conduct major version software upgrades and fix pack updates
- Maintain and enhance best practices and standards for API development
- Monitor API performance, usage, and security to ensure proper functionality
- Test APIs to verify they meet business requirements
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for Apigee proxies
- Demonstrate expertise with Google Cloud Platform and other Cloud platforms such as AWS
- Lead sessions with service consumers to define requirements for access and structure
- Apply hands-on experience with programming languages such as Java/J2EE, Shell, Perl, or Python scripting
Required Skills
- 4-8 years of experience (preferred) in API development and implementation
- 4+ years of experience implementing API proxies through gateways
- Knowledge and experience in developing REST APIs/RESTful Web Services
- Experience with API Connect and/or Apigee platforms
- Familiarity with OAuth for Authentication
- Experience with JWT token implementation for Authentication/Authorization is highly valued
- Knowledge of code, configuration, and build management tools such as Git, Concourse, Ansible, Jenkins, and Harness (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience (preferred)
