About the Role
The Developer will contribute to designing, developing, and modernizing IT software applications with a focus on customer needs, security, and performance. This role requires experience in software design, debugging, and transitioning applications from monolithic to microservice/API-driven architectures. The position is based remotely in the United States with occasional travel to government sites or stakeholder meetings.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to roadmap planning to modernize applications into microservice/API structures.
- Maintain and manage required databases in a GitHub service environment.
- Participate in requirements definition to align solutions with customer needs.
- Develop software following established coding, security, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with Section 508 coding standards and tools.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and correct software errors.
- Prepare formal design documentation when required.
- Collaborate with teams on development, testing, automation, and integration tasks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of NIST SP 800-53 and NIST SP 128 security controls.
- Proficiency with SQL, MS SQL, Oracle, Azure DevOps, and CMDB repositories.
- Hands-on expertise in scripting languages (JavaScript, YAML, Perl, Ruby, Python, PHP, Groovy, Bash).
- Proficiency with CI/CD and open-source tools such as Jira, Selenium, Jenkins, OpenShift/Kubernetes, Docker, SonarQube, Terraform, Git/GitHub, Rancher, ServiceNow, Maven, Gradle, and ANT.
- Experience with AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud platforms.
- Advanced Power BI capabilities.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and diagramming tools.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or related field (or 8 years of experience in lieu of education).
- 5–8 years of relevant professional experience.
- At least 3 years of experience on IT contracts involving Configuration Management (CM).
- Prior experience with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
- Agile/SAFe experience (desired).
- Active VA Public Trust clearance (preferred) or ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust.
