About the Role
The Perl Developer will join a distributed engineering team focused on the delivery and maintenance of mission-critical backend services. This fully remote position is open within Europe (preferred within ±3 hours CET timezone) on a B2B contract basis. The role is full-time (40 hours/week, Monday to Friday) with a salary range of €50,000 to €55,000 gross/year and paid holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, refactor, and expand existing Perl-based services across various production environments
- Collaborate with team leads and QA to deliver bug fixes, performance improvements, and feature upgrades
- Document architectural changes, update technical guides, and maintain codebase hygiene
- Build internal tools for infrastructure maintenance and troubleshooting
- Actively contribute to the reliability and continuity of platform operations across global nodes
- Participate in team planning sessions to estimate tasks, scope technical requirements, and prioritize deliverables
Required Skills
- 3+ years of professional experience in object-oriented Perl development
- Proficiency in Linux environments with strong command-line tooling (especially VI or Vim)
- Familiarity with CGI, CPAN, and modern Perl frameworks such as DBI, PSGI, or Plack
- Strong understanding of Git-based workflows and version control principles
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred) and ORM practices
- Solid knowledge of unit testing, debugging, and performance profiling
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with containerized environments (Docker)
- Continuous integration tools (e.g., Jenkins)
- Experience with Bitbucket or other Git-based platforms
- Familiarity with IDEs such as VS Code, NetBeans, Eclipse, or IntelliJ
