About the Role

Our client, a leading payments company, is seeking a Perl Developer to join their distributed engineering team. This team focuses on delivering and maintaining mission-critical backend services that support complex ecommerce transactions.

Mission:

The company serves a wide range of high-traffic, transaction-heavy online platforms using a suite of custom-built APIs and tools. Their infrastructure spans multiple data centers across North America and Europe, designed for scalability, resilience, and high availability.

This position is fully remote for candidates based in Europe and offered on a B2B contract basis.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: €50,000 to €55,000 gross annually

  • Fully remote work, ideally within ±3 hours CET timezone

  • Paid holidays

  • Full-time schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, refactor, and enhance existing Perl services across diverse production environments

  • Collaborate closely with team leads and QA to deliver bug fixes, optimize performance, and implement new features

  • Document architectural changes and maintain clear, updated technical guides and clean code

  • Develop internal tools to support infrastructure troubleshooting and maintenance

  • Contribute actively to ensuring platform reliability and operational continuity across global sites

  • Participate in planning sessions to estimate work, define technical scope, and prioritize tasks

Core Requirements:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in object-oriented Perl development

  • Proficient in Linux command-line tools, especially VI/Vim

  • Experience with CGI, CPAN, and modern Perl frameworks like DBI, PSGI, or Plack

  • Strong grasp of Git workflows and version control practices

  • Practical knowledge of relational databases, preferably MySQL, and ORM techniques

  • Skilled in unit testing, debugging, and profiling performance issues

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker

  • Experience with continuous integration tools like Jenkins

  • Knowledge of Git platforms like Bitbucket

  • Comfort using IDEs such as VS Code, NetBeans, Eclipse, or IntelliJ
