About the Role

The Senior DevOps Engineer will work on networking, Linux, and database environments, focusing on enhancing automation, monitoring, and operational performance. The role includes managing legacy systems, optimizing database operations, implementing network security strategies, and contributing to CI/CD pipelines and containerization initiatives. This position is located onsite in Sydney, NSW for a 6-month contract.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, debug, and enhance Perl scripts and modules for automation, monitoring, and custom network event alerts.
  • Maintain and administer Linux systems, including network configuration, firewall management (iptables/nftables), routing, NAT, VLANs, and virtual IPs.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance, ensure failover and redundancy strategies are implemented.
  • Configure and manage databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), including performance tuning, indexing, replication, Galera Cluster management, and recovery procedures.
  • Implement containerization using Docker and support infrastructure automation with tools like Ansible.
  • Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines, load balancer management (HAProxy, NGINX), and security best practices.
  • Participate in system monitoring, logging, and alerting to maintain production uptime and reliability.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in Perl scripting for automation and development of legacy code.
  • Strong expertise in Linux system administration and networking fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with MySQL and PostgreSQL, including replication, clustering, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of containerization, load balancers, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting, monitoring, and failover strategies.
  • Skilled in Bash scripting, SSH, and configuration management (Ansible).
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in DevOps or related roles, with exposure to network-focused environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience setting up and managing DNS services.
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and orchestration tools.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and alerting systems: Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios.
  • Experience with scheduling and reporting tools such as Apache Airflow.
  • Understanding of security best practices and vulnerability scanning processes.
