About the Role

The Unix Engineer will develop, optimize, and maintain Unix/Linux shell and Perl scripts to support system automation, monitoring, and maintenance. This role also involves managing Windows dedicated servers, ensuring high availability, performance, and stability across production and non-production environments. The position is onsite at Addison, TX; Kennesaw, GA; or Charlotte, NC and requires participation in in-person interviews.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Unix/Linux shell scripts (Bash, Korn) and Perl scripts for automation and system management.
  • Manage and administer Windows dedicated servers, including installation, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Create scripts for batch jobs, file transfers, and log monitoring across heterogeneous systems.
  • Monitor system health, analyze performance issues, and implement solutions to maintain uptime and stability.
  • Automate repetitive manual tasks to improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with development and QA teams for application deployments, debugging, and release management.
  • Maintain system documentation, scripts repository, and operational runbooks.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to address critical production issues.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting (Bash, Korn).
  • Proficiency in Perl scripting for automation and system tasks.
  • Experience with Windows server administration, including setup, user/group management, services, scheduled tasks, registry, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with job schedulers such as Autosys, Control-M, Cron, or Windows Task Scheduler.
  • Solid understanding of file systems, permissions, networking concepts, and process management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting hybrid Unix/Windows environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective documentation and communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
