About the Role
The Unix Engineer will develop, optimize, and maintain Unix/Linux shell and Perl scripts to support system automation, monitoring, and maintenance. This role also involves managing Windows dedicated servers, ensuring high availability, performance, and stability across production and non-production environments. The position is onsite at Addison, TX; Kennesaw, GA; or Charlotte, NC and requires participation in in-person interviews.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and optimize Unix/Linux shell scripts (Bash, Korn) and Perl scripts for automation and system management.
- Manage and administer Windows dedicated servers, including installation, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Create scripts for batch jobs, file transfers, and log monitoring across heterogeneous systems.
- Monitor system health, analyze performance issues, and implement solutions to maintain uptime and stability.
- Automate repetitive manual tasks to improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with development and QA teams for application deployments, debugging, and release management.
- Maintain system documentation, scripts repository, and operational runbooks.
- Participate in on-call rotation to address critical production issues.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Unix/Linux shell scripting (Bash, Korn).
- Proficiency in Perl scripting for automation and system tasks.
- Experience with Windows server administration, including setup, user/group management, services, scheduled tasks, registry, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with job schedulers such as Autosys, Control-M, Cron, or Windows Task Scheduler.
- Solid understanding of file systems, permissions, networking concepts, and process management.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
